In my Glenn-Stokes Research Internship Program, I have learned and received hands-on experience with sophisticated technology in the materials engineering program at YSU. This includes a 3D Printer rapid prototype, SEM equipped with an EDS detector, and optical microscopes for metallography, among other equipment. For example, I have analyzed steel and aluminum alloys and solder samples using metallographic, SEM & EDS equipment. I will explain how I used them, why they are beneficial for undergraduate research, and what kind of analysis information can be obtained.
