Abstract

Weight Management Among Pregnant African-Americans
Brook Tedesse
University of Cincinnati, Department of Biopsychology
Mentor: Dr. Debra Krummel

The purpose of the study is to determine whether pregnant African-American women have the confidence to gain the recommended amount of weight during their pregnancies. To assess the confidence levels, the women will complete the Eating Self-Efficacy Scale (ESES), which is a 25-item questionnaire that evaluates one’s ability to resist eating during high risk situations; additionally, the women will answer 7 demographic questions. Determining the confidence levels for weight gain of this study’s population will assist in formulating any needed interventions to ensure that pregnant African-American women gain the recommended amount of weight.
