The Glenn-Stokes
Research Internship Program, named in honor of John
Glenn (Ohio Senator and Astronaut) and Louis
Stokes (Ohio Congressman)
is designed to better prepare students for and to encourage them
to pursue careers in science and technology. Students majoring
in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are
matched with faculty members at one of the fifteen participating
institutions.
Glenn-Stokes
Interns engage in research experiences working one-on-one with
faculty mentors during the academic year or over the summer term. Both
intervention programs are designed to engage undergraduates in
research experiences with faculty mentors, accelerate the student’s
socialization into the profession, and create a community of scholars
among the participants. Their
research topics are determined by the student and his or her mentor.
During the summer, interns
devote
full-time to their research projects, the associated campus-based
educational enrichment activities and the Ohio Student Research
Forum. Summer interns conduct research, write an abstract and a
research paper, and present the results of their research at the
Student Research Forum.
Please note: The Glenn-Stokes Internship program is not for students pursuing professional degrees such as law, medical and MBA degrees.
