Support
Financial Aid and Job Placement Assistance is an important component
of MEP's support services. A number of financial aid opportunities are
available such as a various industry sponsored scholarships. The MEP
staff also works with the Placement and Co-op Offices as well as with
individual company representatives to place minority students in summer
internships, co-ops, and permanent positions. Further, MEP maintains
an active résumé file of minority students and also assists
students in preparing their résumés.

Phi Kappa Phi 2005-2006 Graduate Fellowship and Undergraduate Enrichment
Awards
The Ohio State University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, through its Awards
Committee, invites applications for both the $5,000 Phi Kappa Phi
National Fellowships and three locally awarded $750 Phi Kappa Phi
Undergraduate
Enrichment Awards. The deadline for Graduate Fellowship applications
is February 14, 2005, and the deadline for Undergraduate Enrichment
Award applications is April 4, 2005. The Graduate Fellowship application
is on the Phi Kappa Phi website (www.phikappaphi.org). Applications
for the Phi Kappa Phi Undergraduate Enrichment Award are available
through the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences Honors Office, 207
Enarson Hall, 154 West 12th Avenue, 292-5104. All applications should
be submitted
to the Arts and Sciences Honors Office by the stated deadline.
GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP
Students who will begin their first year of graduate or professional
study in any academic field may apply for one of the sixty Phi Kappa
Phi National Fellowships of up to $5,000 and 40 Awards of Excellence
of $2,000. The OSU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi may nominate one individual
for the national award, and the OSU nominee will receive a $500 chapter
award upon entering graduate or professional school, regardless of the
outcome of the national competition.
Selection criteria include scholastic performance, test scores, transcript
record, honors and achievement programs, leadership, participation in
University and community activities, promise of success in graduate and
professional study, and expression of study plans and career goals. Faculty
recommendations are extremely important. Applicants must be currently
enrolled at Ohio State, or be very recent OSU graduates, and have a minimum
3.75 cumulative grade-point average. The Awards Committee generally will
require graduate and professional school test scores, but there are certain
disciplines which do not require standardized tests for admission, and
outstanding students in these disciplines receive equal consideration
with students who do submit test scores.

UNDERGRADUATE ENRICHMENT AWARD
The Ohio State chapter of Phi Kappa Phi awards three $750 Undergraduate
Enrichment Awards each year. These awards are provided to encourage and
enable recipients to undertake projects and activities designed to enrich
their undergraduate programs, and include such pursuits as a research
experience, study abroad, an internship, a visual or performing arts
project, or other such endeavor.
Applicants must: 1) have at least junior standing at the time of application;
2) have at least a 3.70 grade-point average at the end of Autumn Quarter
2004; and 3) plan to enroll at The Ohio State University in the academic
year following the announcement of the award. It is not necessary to
be a member of Phi Kappa Phi to receive this award.
