COLLEGE STUDENTS

Clustering
Groups of minority STEM students are clustered in cohorts taking courses together to develop a strong academic peer support network.

Collaborative Learning
Involves students working together in study groups collectively responsible for each other’s learning as well as their own. Group leaders receive training on how to organize, promote and lead the study collaborative study group.

Drop-In Centers
Drop-In Centers are locations where STEM students can access resource material, ask questions, and receive support services. These centers are staffed by volunteers and may operate on a 24-hour basis.

Living-Learning
L
earning programs created for science and engineering students in the residence halls. They are designed to help students acclimate to college life and stay connected with other STEM students.

Mentoring
Peer, faculty, and industrymentors provide academic advice and encouragement. Mentors meet with the student on a regular basis to monitor their progress, accompany them to events, provide advice and support, and answer questions and address concerns.

Supplemental Instruction
Targets high risk courses with a high D, F, or Withdraw rate. Paid student facilitators are trained and attend each session of a targeted course that they have already successfully completed. In after class study sessions, they provide instruction to students on how to learn and what to learn in a particular class with a specific instructor.

Tutoring
Upper division undergraduate and graduate students serve as tutors in STEM fields.
