Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences

Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) coordinates admissions and first year graduate studies for 13 Ph.D training programs and 300 faculty mentors at the University of Michigan. Entering graduate students are offered flexibility in the choice of any of the 13 participating programs, while retaining the small, focused environment of each of the individual training programs. Students can immediately begin training in any of these Ph.D areas or take a course of study compatible with several programs, all while engaging in research rotations. Final decisions are not required until the end of their first year as to which research laboratory and training program they will enter. All students are financially supported during their graduate studies with full tuition, a health care plan that covers both them and one dependent, and a competitive living stipend (currently $24,500).
